Extension One is a small-scale intervention that has transformed a small terraced house on Whistler Street in a conservation area in the London Borough of Islington.
When we first visited the house it was dark and unsuitable for a young couple expecting their first child. We demolished the existing rear extension and bathroom, rebuilding in the original stock brick, and added a side extension and rooflight over the new kitchen. The new living space is open with space for crawling.
The rear elevation is characterised by a large sliding oak door and fixed window to the kitchen. Grey limestone flows inside to out creating a seamless connection to the small rear garden.
